Alberto Garlandini is a museologist and expert in the management of cultural heritage.

He is Vice President of ICOM and member of ICOM’s Executive Board and Working Group on Sustainability. He was President of ICOM Italy and member of ICOM’s Advisory Council, of the Board of International Committee for Regional Museums, of the Standing Committee for Museum Definition, Prospect and Potentials, of the Strategic Allocation Review Commission and

of Strategic Plan Committee. He was Chair of the Organising Committee of the 2016 ICOM General Conference in Milan.

He was a speaker at the UNESCO High Level Forum on Museums, Shenzen, China. He is in the Board of Directors of the National Museum of Palazzo Ducale in Mantua, President of the Scientific Committee of Trento’s MUSE – Museo delle Scienze and member of the Scientific Committee of Brescia Musei Foundation.

He has been appointed by the Italian Ministries of Cultural Heritage and of Foreign Affairs in national commissions such as the Commission for the Reform of State Museums and National Museum System, in the Commission for the definition of national standards for the museums’ management and in the Commission for the Promotion of Italian Culture Abroad.

For the Lombardy region, he was Director-General of Culture, Director- General of Cinema, and President of Lombardy’s Film Commission.

He is a lecturer at universities and international conferences, and has been widely published in Italian, English and French.
