An international cooperation project for the conservation and enhancement of the heritage of the Catedral de Santa Catalina de Alejandría has been launched in Cartagena de Indias.
The initiative, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is promoted by the Polytechnic University of Turin as leader, in collaboration with Alcaldía de Cartagena and the Italian Embassy in Colombia, and involves the JRC La Venaria Reale and a network of local operators and partners, including the Escuela Taller de Cartagena (ETCAR) and the ‘Conservar’ company.
Technical inspections, assessments of the state of conservation and comparison with institutional partners and local operators have made it possible to identify critical issues and intervention priorities. In parallel, a co-design process with the Polytechnic of Turin and local partners, aimed at building an integrated programme combining training, capacity building and pilot interventions, geared towards strengthening skills and sustainability of actions in the medium term.
This includes the training course dedicated to heritage conservation, which will start at the end of April and will be developed from the case studies of the Cathedral.
