STRUCTURAL TREATMENTS ON DOUBLE-SIDED PAINTINGS

As part of the Conserving Canvas initiative promoted by the Getty Foundation, the Centre will organise a practical workshop for visiting conservators specialized in the restoration of paintings on canvas.

The workshop will be divided into 2 editions:

• First edition: 7-18 June 2021
• Second edition: Dates to be confirmed

It will give the opportunity to 6 restorers (3 for each edition) to discuss complex issues related to the restoration of paintings on two sides.

The workshops will take place in the Centre’s Restoration Laboratories and will be open to mid-career restorers preferably working in museums or other cultural heritage institutions.

The technical-practical activity will concern in particular the painting depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints by Giulio Cesare Procaccini of the Pinacoteca di Brera, a complex case of canvas painted on both sides that will provide theoretical and practical tools in particular on the theme of the re-adhesion of fragments / compensation for lacerations.
