In May 2019, the Christian communities responsible for the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem signed an agreement to start a second phase of restoration work aimed at preserving the historic pavement of the Basilica.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Coordination and implementation of the restoration of the Basilica\u2019s pavement was entrusted to the JRC in collaboration with Sapienza University of Rome, which was entrusted with the concomitant archaeological studies and excavations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The intervention included a feasibility study phase prior to the actual intervention, aimed at the technical, scientific and archaeological deepening of the constituent materials and structures and involving collaboration with major Italian universities and research centres (Politecnico di Milano DABC and MantovaLAB, CNR-ISPC Istituto di Scienze del Patrimonio Culturale, CNR-ISAC Istituto di Scienze Atmosferiche e del Clima) and professionals (Manens-TIFS, IG Ingegneria Geotecnica).<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently the JRC is engaged in the executive phase of the restoration of the pavement carrying out on-site missions and methodological support to the site activities.<\/span><\/p>\n
