The school, now in its 8th edition, has a revised programme, looking in much more depth at FT-IR and Raman non-invasive portable spectroscopy. It will focus in particular on data processing by means of multivariate analysis.

In the practical sessions the instrumentation available to the Centro (FT-IR Microscopy with Chemical Imaging sensor) and portable instruments (FT-IR and Raman) provided by Bruker Italia will be used.

Sponsored by AIAr, the school is organised by the Centro Conservazione e Restauro "La Venaria Reale" with the technical support of Bruker Italia and with the participation of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Turin, the Istituto per la Conservazione e la Valorizzazione dei Beni Culturali (ICVBC) Sezione Milano and the Associazione Laboratorio di Diagnostica per i Beni Culturali.

TEACHING STAFF

PAOLO BELLONI, a graduate in Chemistry from the University of Milan, with a special interest in instrumental analytics and spectroscopy, has been product specialist for process NIR spectroscopy for Bruker since 2001. Over the years he has come into contact with a wide range of sectors and production companies, providing and implementing analytical solutions based on NIR, in particular process solutions for both the chemical and pharmaceutical worlds. ANNA PICCIRILLO, PhD in Chemical Sciences from the University of Turin, began her research in the field of cultural heritage, focusing on the characterisation of painting binders using chromatographic techniques. She has worked as a cultural heritage researcher and diagnostician at the scientific laboratory of the Soprintendenza Beni e Attività Culturali della Regione Autonoma Valle dAosta and at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Turin. Her research at the Centro Conservazione e Restauro "La Venaria Reale" focuses on developing methodologies for characterising the surfaces of objects of historical and artistic interest, with a special focus on measurements in infrared spectroscopy. [anna.piccirillo@centrorestaurovenaria.it]

TOMMASO POLI, PhD in Chemical Sciences from the University of Turin, has worked as a research associate at the Istituto per la Conservazione e Valorizzazione dei Beni Culturali, Sezione Milano G. Bozza(ICVBC) of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR). He currently works as a research technician in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Turin. His research focuses on new materials and methodologies to conserve cultural heritage. He is the author of numerous scientific publications with a special focus on measurements in infrared spectroscopy. [tommaso.poli@unito.it]

DIEGO SALI graduated in Materials Physics from La Sapienza University in Rome in 2003 and has been working for Bruker's Optics division since 2004 as Product Research and Development Manager (FT-IR and Raman) for the Italian public sector. Since 2007, he has been systematically working on a project aimed at optimising instrumentation for the Cultural Heritage sector (Diagnostics and Conservation) and helps implement and test a portable FT-IR system for in-situ analysis for non-destructive and non-invasive analyses, which is currently very common in this sector. He also helps develop an FT-IR system to generate IR images in situ at a distance from works of art, as well as developing the application of the next-generation portable Raman in Cultural Heritage. [diego.sali@bruker.com]
