With the support of the Getty Foundation through its Conserving Canvas initiative, the Centre is pleased to announce a practical workshop addressed to conservators specialized in paintings on canvas.
The workshop will be held in two different editions:
- First edition: 7th-18th June 2021
- Second edition: dates to be confirmed
It will be an opportunity for 6 conservators (3 per each edition) to deal with complex topics concerning double-sided paintings. Open to mid-career conservators working in museums or other institutions active in the field of Conservation of Cultural Heritage, it will take place in the Conservation Laboratories of the Centre (Venaria Reale, Turin, Italy).
The practical-technical activity will focus particularly on a banner depicting the Virgin and Child with Saints by Giulio Cesare Procaccini from Pinacoteca di Brera (Milan). It is a complex case of canvas painted on both sides which can offer interesting insights in particular on the topic of tear repair.
