Italy-Egypt cooperation programme
Training on the Conservation of Books and Archive Materials
The aim of the project was to support the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in its development as a centre of excellence for the conservation of Islamic arts and to support the capacity building of the participating museums selected by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Egypt (MoTA), namely the MIA, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation (NMEC), the Gayer-Anderson Museum and the Manial Palace.
A 10-day training course on the preservation of books and archival materials, always remote and in-person in Venaria, was therefore designed and provided for 35 Egyptian conservatory professionals and curators selected by the MoTA.
The program involved conservation scientists (biologists, chemists and technicians) and conservators specialized in different types of artifacts (fabrics; stone materials, frescoes; metals, ceramics and glass; wooden and polychrome sculptures; paper materials).
