Carracci's drawings for the Galleria Farnese. New perspectives

  • Thursday 3 October from 9.30 am to 1 pm (Academy of France in Rome Villa Medici)
  • Friday 4 October from 9.30 am to 5 pm (École française de Rome Piazza Navona 62)

Investigations conducted by the researchers of the project Carracci ConservArt (2022-2026) allow to outline new research avenues thanks to the analysis of the unpublished data collected during the last restoration of the Galleria dei Carracci (2015). With a view to enhancing and first verifying the studies in progress, this second meeting open to the public is dedicated to the famous corpus of preparatory drawings made by Agostino and Annibale Carracci.

Scholars and conservators invited for the occasion and some members of the group Carracci ConservArt will present concrete examples of the modus operandi of the two brothers obtained by comparison with the data emerged from the diagnostic investigations and new proposals on the attribution, on the collecting events, on the fortune of these extraordinary sheets.

The days will end with a discussion between some of the leading experts in graphics Carraccesca.
