Artificial Intelligence for Damage Detection and Reporting in Artistic Heritage

As part of the PNRR Call for Proposals "Cascading Fund of the Innovation Ecosystem for Businesses" NODES, Line A, Spoke n. 3 – Tourism and Culture Industry, the CCR, in collaboration with WEREA S.r.l., submitted a project proposal titled AI4Heritage, ranking first in the list of funded projects across all of North-West Italy. The project aims to develop advanced systems for monitoring the conservation status of artworks through high-resolution 3D scanning and the application of Artificial Intelligence for the automatic recognition of degradation. Specifically, the developed algorithms are capable of detecting differences between two scans of the same object and identifying the presence of anomalies according to a recognized technical classification.

The goal of the project is to integrate and optimize existing technologies available individually on the market, enabling an efficient, low-cost, reliable, and highly effective art monitoring process.
