The ‘La Venaria Reale’ Conservation and Restoration Centre continues its research activities within the project CarracciConservArt, dedicated to the study and conservation of the frescoes of the Carracci Gallery at Palazzo Farnese.
The new phase of the research, which ended at the end of January, saw the JRC team engaged in thein-depth analysis of pictorial techniques and in the precise characterization of the materials used by the artists.

Together with Rachel George, a member of the steering committee, Michela Cardinali – Director of the Restoration Laboratories and the JRC School of Higher Education and scientific advisor to the project together with Giorgio Capriotti – she was responsible for the mapping of executive techniques and diagnostic investigations, conducted with non-invasive and micro-invasive methodologies.

Thanks to state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, the Director of Scientific Laboratories Federica Pozzi and conservation scientist Tiziana Cavalieri were able to collect valuable data to better understand the methods of execution of the frescoes and identify any degradation phenomena.

This study is a unique opportunity for deepen the knowledge of the frescoes of the Carracci Gallery and contribute to their future conservation. Each analysis makes it possible to gather essential information to plan targeted and sustainable interventions, while respecting the work and its history.
