Laser training course
Following the success of the Conservation Science Workshops 2023-2024 programme, the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) entrusted the JRC – Centre for Conservation and Restoration ‘La Venaria Reale’ with the task of developing a new training course for 16 Saudi students and professionals, providing technical and scientific expertise for the conscious use of laser technology in the cleaning of cultural heritage surfaces. In collaboration with the El.En. Group, an intensive program has been designed, divided into:
- Basic course (5 days)
- Advanced course (10 days)
- Total of 3 weeks of face-to-face training in AlUla (Saudi Arabia)
- 6 months remote assistance with mentoring by JRC experts
The activities focused on the removal of deposits, restoration materials and vandalism writings from stone surfaces, through:
– Tests on specially prepared test pieces
– Interventions on pilot areas in the archaeological sites of AlUla
An advanced training course that combined theory and practice, preparing participants to consciously and innovatively integrate laser technologies into cultural heritage preservation processes.
