Conservation and Restoration

Since its creation, the Centre has had among its objectives to develop and promote projects related to the strategic theme of preventive conservation.
Over the years he has defined working protocols to support the system of Savoy Residences and museums in the area and beyond.

The combination of preventive conservation and residences has been a focus of interest for years, which has led the Centre to collaborate with the Politecnico di Torino and Icom Italia, with international partners such as the Association des Résidences Royales Européenne (ARRE), the Castle of Versailles and the Royal Palace of Wilanow.

In particular, the EPICO – European Protocol In Preventive Conservation project was developed with international partners with the specific aim of developing a protocol for the analysis of the state of conservation of collections in historic houses.

Preventive conservation projects are underway in the Reggia di Venaria, in the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, where programs dedicated to pest management are also in place, at the Castello di Rivoli, in the Residences of the FAI, in the Villa Petraia in Florence and in the Royal Palace of Caserta.

The Center carries out training courses designed ad hoc on the needs of the residences-museum to provide the management and staff with the cognitive and practical tools to introduce preventive conservation practices in the daily life of the museum.

The Centre’s experience and specific practical factsheets that can help museum conservators in recognising risks and monitoring conservative alterations to collections can be found in the volume produced thanks to the contribution of the Compagnia di San Paolo, which supports the Centre in preventive conservation programmes. Planning the conservation of collections in residences.
