21 November 2024

Coming from Nubia and donated to Italy in the 1960s, the Ellesiya Rock Chapel is one of the temples saved from the submersion caused by the construction of the Aswan dam. Thanks to a comprehensive research and restoration programme, it is possible to admire it in the exhibition at the Egyptian Museum in Turin.

The project involved the Centro Conservazione Restauro ‘La Venaria Reale’ and the Egyptian Museum in a multidisciplinary project involving restorers, Egyptologists, epigraphists, curators, photographers and conservation scientists. Scientific investigations have made it possible, among other things, to identify traces of original pigments no longer visible to the naked eye, revealing new elements on the decoration and history of the Chapel.

A virtuous example of synergy between scientific and humanistic skills, at the service of knowledge and enhancement of cultural heritage.
