The ‘La Venaria Reale’ Restoration Conservation Centre has always worked with one of the internationally recognised producers of traditional handcrafted trimmings, theAntica Fabbrica Passamanerie Massia Vittorio 1843, which for six generations handed down the old recipes and worked on the creation of new forms at the service of complex textile equipment, both furnishing and fashion.
The course, drawing on the experience of Max Massia, therefore intends to provide a series of technical and linguistic indications for the analysis of the different types of historical trimmings (cords, bows, braids, fringes, etc.) with particular attention also to the conservation needs of their constituent materials.
During the course, in addition to the theoretical lessons dedicated to the vocabulary, history and use of the different types, we will proceed to the stylistic comparison of samples of trimmings made available for a practical workshop and for technical filing exercises in order to consolidate the new knowledge acquired.
