The Municipality of Beinasco has presented to the citizens the restoration of Abstract form (1965), one of the metallic masterpieces by Franco Garelli (1909 – 1973), painter, sculptor, ceramist and leading figure of twentieth-century Italian art.

The recovery of the work, curated by the Centro Conservazione Restauro ‘La Venaria Reale’, is part of a wider project to rediscover the figure of Garelli, which began with the 2023 monographic exhibition at the Ettore Fico Museum in Turin.

A self-taught visionary, Garelli was the protagonist of Italian artistic movements and avant-gardes from the 1930s onwards, sharing the choices and the desire to adhere to and adhere to the contemporary world of local and national arts, in controversy with the recovery of the art of the past.

The studies of Andrea Busto, director of the Ettore Fico Museum and curator of the 2023 monographic exhibition, and the restoration carried out by the JRC’s Metals, Glass and Ceramics Laboratory have enabled the work to be read as a significant segment for the artist’s knowledge.

Today, thanks to the commitment of the Municipality of Beinasco, to which Garelli bequeathed significant sculptural and monumental works, Abstract form It is returned to the public.

“Celebrating Garelli means looking to the future with solid roots in the past. With this restoration, we are returning to the city an important piece of its history and paying tribute to a master who brought the name of Beinasco into the world of contemporary art.” says Daniel Cannati, Mayor of Beinasco.

Matteo Carosso, Councillor for Culture of Beinasco, said: ‘Culture is a living memory and care for our heritage. Garelli is a symbol of Beinaschese creativity and identity, and this restoration is a precious opportunity to revive it and share it with the whole community.”
