25-AL-2006_Nichelino, Stupinigi Hunting Lodge, Coffee table, inv. 1622
Facilitated description:
The game table is a work of walnut wood made in 1740-1760.
The table is kept at the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi.
The Centro Conservazione e Restauro La Venaria Reale restored the coffee table in 2006-2007 after the discovery of the piece of furniture. The table was stolen in 2004.
The restorers have inserted the coffee table in the anoxic room (room without oxygen that serves to eliminate insects that feed on wood).
The restorers carried out a cleaning (cleaning the surface from the dirt deposited over time).
They glued the parts of wood that were coming off.
The table had gaps (missing parts) in the wood.
The restorers stuccoed the gaps (they themselves have a layer of wax inside the gaps of the wood).
The restorers painted the coffee table to protect it from the sun and dust.
Abstract of the intervention:
The game table was completed in 2007 under the supervision of Pinin Brambilla Barcilon. The intervention was carried out on the occasion of the discovery of the nucleus of works stolen from the hunting lodge of Stupinigi in 2004. After the restoration, the work was relocated to the Palazzina.
Restoration
The operation began with an anoxic chamber disinfestation over a period of three weeks. It is followed by the removal of atmospheric deposits with brushes and vacuum cleaner. Chemical cleaning was carried out on the decorative apparatus. Subsequently, the liftings were adhered with animal glue and the grouting with pigmented beeswax was carried out.
Finally, on the entire surface it was a protective film of Regalrez paint, while on the leather surfaces it was a wax film.
