17-AL-2006_Nichelino, Hunting Lodge of Stupinigi, Chair, inv. 4082
Facilitated description:
The chair is a work of gilded wood and fabric.
The chair was made in 1750-1800.
The chair is kept at Stupinigi's hunting lodge.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the chair in 2006.
The restorers carried out a cleaning (cleaning the surface from the dirt deposited over time).
The chair had gaps (missing parts) of wood and gilding.
The restorers stuccoed the gaps (they themselves have a white layer of chalk and glue inside the gaps).
They painted the stucco with watercolor and gold colors.
They applied a product against xylophagous insects (insects that feed on wood).
In the end they painted the chair to protect it from the sun's rays and dust.
Abstract of the intervention:
The intervention is part of the first lot of restoration of the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi relating to the Levante Apartment. The project involved the furniture and furnishings of Lounge 8, Chinese Rooms 14-15 and Cabinet 10. The restorations were included in the interventions financed by the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities with the proceeds derived from the lottery.
Restoration
The restoration of the chair began with a superficial cleaning. Chemical cleaning combined with mechanical action was carried out on the gilding and meccated silver. Subsequently, the most obvious gaps were plastered and reintegrated with watercolor colors. Finally, a mothproof treatment was carried out and protective varnish was applied.
