Facilitated description:

The 2 stools are made of gilded wood and fabric.
The stools were made in the late 1700s.
The stools are kept at the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the stools in 2006.
The restorers carried out a cleaning (cleaning the surface from the dirt deposited over time).
The stools had gaps (missing parts) of wood and gilding.
The restorers stuccoed the gaps (they themselves have a white layer of chalk and glue inside the gaps).
They painted the stucco with watercolor and gold colors.
They applied a product against xylophagous insects (insects that feed on wood).
In the end they painted the stools to protect them from the sun's rays and dust.

Abstract of the intervention:

The intervention is part of the first lot of restoration of the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi relating to the Levante Apartment. The project involved the furniture and furnishings of Lounge 8, Chinese Rooms 14-15 and Cabinet 10. The restorations were included in the interventions financed by the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities with the proceeds derived from the lottery.

Restoration

The restoration of the two stools began with a cleaning of the lacquering with medium-hard sponge and silver meccated with synthetic saliva. Subsequently, the gaps in the preparation were plastered and reintegrated chromatically with watercolor veils. A disinfestation in the anoxic chamber and anti-tall treatment with permethrin was carried out at the level of the support. In the end, a protective coating was carried out.
