Facilitated description:
The two golden metal candlesticks were made in 1850 and serve to support 6 candles each.
The candlesticks are kept at the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi.
The Conservation and Restoration Center "La Venaria Reale" restored the candlesticks in 2013.
The restorers cleaned the candlesticks of dirt and eliminated the ruined parts of the metal.
They dried the parts under a special lamapada.
They repainted the candles.
In the end they spread a protective substance and reassembled the pieces.
Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The two candlesticks were subjected to mechanical cleaning with scalpels and chemical cleaning with solvent swabs to eliminate dirt deposits. In addition, chemical cleaning was carried out with baths in aqueous solution and subsequent rinsing and localised cleaning of the most oxidised areas by the application of chelating, then removed with demineralised water swabs. Subsequently, dehydration was carried out with baths in ethyl alcohol and drying under an IR lamp and with a heat-convector. Finally, an acrylic resin protection was applied and the parts were reassembled.
