Facilitated description:
The four golden metal candle holders were made in 1850.
The candle holders are kept in the chapel of the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the candle holders in 2013.
The restorers have dismantled and cleaned the portals.
They've spread a protective substance.
Eventually they removed the paint from the candles and painted the missing color parts with new paint.
Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The sconces were cleaned mechanically with scalpels and chemically with solvent swabs to remove dirt deposits. In addition, a chemical cleaning of all parts was carried out with baths in aqueous chelator solution and then rinsed and a localised cleaning of the most oxidised areas by applying supported chelator, applied with a brush and removed with demineralised water swabs. Subsequently, general dehydration was carried out with baths in ethyl alcohol and drying under an IR lamp and with a heat-convector. An acrylic resin protection has been applied. Finally, the paint was removed from the candles with an alkaline paint stripper, the paint was supplemented with water-based acrylic paint and the pieces were reassembled.
