Restoration report (09/1979-12/1979) and photographic documentation relating to the intervention carried out on the wall paintings depicting Last Supper and Lavender feet, Holy Bishops, St George's Church, It is kept inside the archbishopric.
Facilitated description
The works "Last Supper", "Lavender of the feet", "Holy Bishops" and "St. George" are wall paintings preserved at the Archbishopric of Bergamo.
The works were executed at different times, including a period of time ranging from about 1100 to 1300 and are by unknown authors.
The restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the works in 1979.
He removed the old grouts (a white layer of gypsum and glue that stretches inside a gap and forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions).
Treated large gaps (missing parts) with marble powder.
He made new groutings (a white layer of gypsum and glue that stretches inside a gap and forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions) on the small gaps (missing parts).
The restorer cleaned the pictorial film from dust and old restorations.
He fixed the colors that had more abrasions (scratches on the surface due to rubbing).
He applied a protective varnish and made a veil (transparent layer of color) in the areas with abrasions (scratches on the surface due to rubbing).
Performed the integration (reconstruction of the material or color of missing parts) to watercolor in small gaps (missing parts).
