Facilitated description

The Altar of St. Clement is a stone sculpture preserved in the Collegiate Church of Castiglione Olona, in the province of Varese.
The altar is divided into two levels and has painted stone statues.
The triptych (set of three panels painted for an altar connected by a frame) is attributed to the workshop of Antonio da Venezia.
The side altars are attributed to the Caronese masters.
The restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon carried out the restoration in 2001.
The analysis showed that the statues had different layers of color.
There were cracks and gaps on the corners and fingers of the statues.
The altar and statues were covered with a yellowed varnish and had deposits of dirt.
The restorer cleaned the surface and the paint.
He hung up the right hand of the statue of an angel.
The restorer filled the color gaps with fillers (a white layer of plaster and glue that extends inside a gap and forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions) and integrated (reconstruction of the material or color of missing parts) the fillers with watercolor colors.
