Restoration report (1991), graphic (drafts) and photographic documentation relating to the phases before, during and after the restoration of the paintings that decorate the vault of the Torriani Chapel or of S. Martino, frescoed with the representation of the Four Evangelists and eight Saints, works attributed to Michelino da Besozzo.
Facilitated description
The murals attributed to Michelino da Besozzo in the Torriani Chapel (or Cappella San Martino) of the church of Sant'Eustorgio in Milan are from about 1435-1440.
Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the paintings in 1991.
The frescoes were covered with dust and materials used in an old restoration.
The restorer Pinin Brambilla has consolidated (make the surfaces more stable) the detached areas of pictorial film.
He performed the pictorial integration (reconstruction of the material or color of missing parts) to watercolor.
In the areas with abrasions (scratches on the surface due to rubbing) he used glazes (transparent layer of color) and in the gaps (missing parts) he used the hatch technique (thin and small lines of color that from a distance recompose the shape of the missing part).
