Restoration report (26/04/1993) and photographic documentation relating to the restoration of the painting Christ mocked (Lombardy school).
Facilitated description
The work "Christ mocked", now known as "Ecce Homo", is a painting on canvas of 1493-1505 preserved at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan.
At the time of restoration the painting was considered to be of Lombard scope, today it is attributed to the French painter Josse Lieferinxe.
Restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the work in 1993.
Under the head of Christ there was an old tear already repaired.
Further down, there was a gap (missing part), possibly caused by a candle.
The paint was very yellowed and the paint was ruined in some places.
The restorer added small tweaks and reinforced the frame (structure that supports the canvas of the painting).
He applied a treatment against xylophagous insects (insects that feed on wood and damage the work).
It replaced the old groutings (a white layer of plaster and glue that stretches inside a lack and that forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions).
