Restoration report and photographic documentation relating to the restoration of the diptych depicting St. John the Baptist and St. Stephen.
Facilitated description
The works "San Giovanni Battista" and "Santo Stefano" by Vincenzo Foppa are two paintings on wood from the early 1500s.
At the time of the restoration the works were kept at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan, today they are kept at the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia.
The restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the works in 1998.
In the archive are stored photographic analysis with ultraviolet UV light (light beam that allows you to see details not visible in natural lighting conditions; it is mainly used to understand the degradation of different materials) and with infrared IR light (light beam that allows you to see details not visible in natural lighting conditions; it is mainly used to read the drawing under the pictorial layer).
