Restoration report (11/1997-07/1998) and photographic documentation related to the restoration of the painting on panel Saint Clare by Marco D'Oggiono.

Facilitated description

The work "Santa Chiara" by Marco d'Oggiono is a painting on panel of about 1400-1500 preserved at the Archbishop's Curia of Milan.
The restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the work in 1997-1998 under the direction of Simonetta Coppa.
The restorer cleaned the back of the painting of dust and applied a treatment against xylophagous insects (insects that feed on wood and damage the work).
He fixed the raised colors with adhesive injections.
The left side of the painting was very repainted.
The restorer removed the old retouches, made a plastering of the gaps (a white layer of plaster and glue that stretches inside a lack and that forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions) and applied a protective varnish.
He integrated painting (reconstruction of the material or color of missing parts) with hatching (thin and small lines of color that from a distance recompose the shape of the missing part) in the gaps and with veils (transparent layer of color) on the revealed parts.
Finally, he applied a spray paint to give brilliance to the painting.
