Restoration report (11/1997-07/1998) and photographic documentation related to the restoration of the painting on panel Saint Catherine by Marco D'Oggiono.
Facilitated description
The work "Santa Caterina" by Marco d'Oggiono is a painting on panel of about 1400-1500 preserved at the Archbishop's Curia of Milan.
The restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the work in 1997-1998 under the direction of Simonetta Coppa.
The restorer cleaned the back of the painting of dust and applied a treatment against xylophagous insects (insects that feed on wood and damage the work).
It consolidated (make the surfaces more stable) the raises of the pictorial surface.
The restorer has removed in numerous touch-ups and glue accumulations.
He made a grouting of the remaining gaps (a white layer of gypsum and glue that stretches inside a gap and forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions) and applied a protective varnish.
The restorer carried out the pictorial reintegration (reconstruction of the material or color of missing parts) with reversible paint colors.
