Restoration report (10/06/1986-15/11/1986) and photographic documentation relating to the intervention on the painting Annunciation by Benvenuto Tisi (Garofalo).
Facilitated description
The work "Annunciation" by Benvenuto Tisi called Garofalo is a painting on panel of 1522 preserved at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan.
Restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the work in 1986.
It fixed the lifts and the colour scales to prevent them from coming off and carried out a cleaning (cleaning the surface of the work of art of the dirt deposited over time).
He removed old layers of paint and repaintings, revealing small cracks on the Madonna's mantle.
It eliminated retouching and a veiling (transparent layer of color) in oil that caused dark spots.
He carried out the grouting (a white layer of plaster and glue that extends inside a lack and that forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions).
He then carried out the pictorial integration (reconstruction of the material or color of missing parts) and applied the final paint.
The analysis showed an original veil (transparent layer of color) slightly obscured, especially under the dove.
