Facilitated description

The restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon has restored some drawings on paper by artists of 1500-1600:

  • Giulio Cesare Procaccini;
  • Ercole Procaccini;
  • Camillo Procaccini;
  • Daniele Crespi;
  • William Hunting;
  • Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli known as Morazzone;
  • Giovanni Battista Crespi known as Cerano;
  • Joseph Arcimboldo.

The drawings are kept at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan.
The restoration took place in 1986.
The restorer removed the dust and detached the drawings from the damp support.
Under the design of Giulio Cesare Procaccini, the restorer discovered the inscription "Giulio Cesare".
Removed glue residue and oily stains.
He replaced the stand with a new one and put the drawings inside of the passepartouts (paper frames suitable for the drawings).
For Ercole Procaccini's drawings, the restorer removed the damp adhesive tape and welded the tears with Japanese paper.
He smoothed out all the drawings with steam.
