Restoration report (11/1994-06/1995) and photographic documentation relating to the intervention on the painting The Expulsion of Lucifer into the Underworld by Marco D’Oggiono.
Works Directorate: Pietro Cesare Marani.
Facilitated description
The work ‘La cacciata di Lucifero nei inferi’ by Marco D’Oggiono, now known as ‘I tre arcangeli’ (The three archangels), is a painting on panel from 1516 in the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan.
Originally, the work was a fresco painted on a wall of the Church of Santa Marta in Milan.
A restorer of the past ripped the fresco (he transported the pictorial layer from the original support, the wall, to a different support, in this case a wooden board).
The painting on panel has been kept at the Pinacoteca di Brera since 1806.
Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the work in 1994-1995 under the direction of Pietro Cesare Marani.
He cleaned the yellowed paint and dirt deposits and left three small dirt samples along the margins for documentation.
