Restoration report (10/1995-12/1995) and photographic documentation related to the intervention on the painting Christ in Mercy by Pedro Berruguete.
Facilitated description
The work "Christ in piety" attributed to Pedro Berruguete, now known as "Christ in the tomb between two angels", is a painting on canvas of about 1480 preserved at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan.
The restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the work in 1995 under the direction of Emanuela Daffra.
He cleaned the support of the painting from particulate deposits (deposits of dust and dirt, due to atmospheric agents) and treated the wood of the frame (structure that supports the canvas of the painting) with a protective product.
The restorer carried out preliminary tests for cleaning (cleaning the surface of the work of art of the dirt deposited over time) and removed the paint, revealing damage and repainting.
He performed the grouting (a white layer of gypsum and glue that stretches inside a lack and that forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions) necessary.
It has integrated colors (reconstruction of the material or color of missing parts) with the hatch technique (thin and small lines of color that from a distance recompose the shape of the missing part) and veils (transparent layer of color).
He discovered a pictorial enlargement of the body of Christ made by the artist.
