The Pietà is a painting on a wooden table made during the 1500s.
The painting is kept at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan.
The students of the Centro Conservazione e Restauro La Venaria Reale restored the painting in 2016.
Scientists at the Venaria Center did scientific analysis to study how the painting was made and what colors were used.
The restorers stopped the parts of color that were peeling off.
They cleaned the painting of dust.
Abstract of the intervention:
The restoration of the Mercy of the Master of the Pietà of Stockholm is part of an ordinary diactic project, implemented in 2016 for students of the course of studies of Conservation and restoration of the cultural heritage of the path of PFP 2.
Intervention project
The restoration of the table provided for intervention in the detachment areas and a general cleaning. In addition, an in-depth diagnostic campaign (infrared refractography, infrared in false color, digital radiography, ultraviolet fluorescence) was planned to deepen the study of the executive techniques and materials and to evaluate the possibility of performing pieces of removal of paint and altered retouching in order to better understand the conservative state of the original pictorial material.
