40-MT-2007_Turin, Civic Museum of Ancient Art - Palazzo Madama, Tapestry with coat of arms of Carlo Emanuele II, inv. 2083/T
Facilitated description:
The tapestry with the coat of arms of Carlo Emanuele II is a large canvas work that hangs to decorate the walls.
The tapestry represents the symbol of King Carlo Emanuele II.
The tapestry was made in 1660-1700.
The tapestry is kept at the Civic Museum of Ancient Art in Turin (Palazzo Madama).
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the tapestry in 2007 for an exhibition.
The restorers eliminated the mechanism by which the tapestry was hung on the wall. This mechanism was created during the 1990 restoration.
The restorers cleaned the tapestry of dust.
They lined the tapestry (sewn a reinforcement canvas on the back).
They mounted an adhesive band at the top to hang the tapestry.
Abstract of the intervention:
The restoration of the tapestry with the coat of arms of Carlo Emanuele III, inv. 2083/T was performed on the occasion of the exhibition at the exhibition The palace of Venaria Reale. The Savoys. Art, magnificence and history of a European court (Reggia di Venaria, 12 October 2007 - 30 March 2008).
Restoration
The restoration began with the removal of the anchoring system (suspension pocket) made during a 1990 intervention by Cinzia Oliva. With a view to a conservative recovery of the work, it was decided to maintain this last restoration intervention. Therefore, we have limited ourselves here to accurate micro-suction on the front and back of the tapestry and to the creation of a new display system (linen lining with sewn-stop linen along the perimeter with regular scanning stitches and a Velcro band along the upper side).
