Facilitated description:
The cup is an antique glass container.
The cup was made during the 400-500.
The cup is kept at the Museo Civico d'Arte Antica in Turin (Palazzo Madama).
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the cup in 2009. Some restoration students participated in the project.
The restorers cleaned the cup of glue and brown stains.
They glued the broken parts with glue.
Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The restoration was carried out as part of an educational project by the teacher Marco Demmelbauer.
The intervention began with the removal of glue through compresses and whitish deposits with scalpels. The brown deposits were lowered by the action of chelating agents applied by buffering. A layer of acrylic resin was then applied and the fragments were bonded with a two-component epoxy resin.
