Facilitated description:
Still life vase with flowers is a painting on canvas.
The painting is kept at the Castle of Moncalieri.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the painting in 2011.
Scientists at the Venaria Center did scientific analysis to see how the painting was made.
The restorers cleaned up behind the painting.
They put a product against insects that eat wood on the frame (wooden structure that stands behind the painting and serves to support the painting).
They dismantled the painting from the frame.
They cleaned the front of the painting of dust, yellowed paint and old restoration paintings.
They filled the color gaps with putty (plaster and glue layer).
They painted the putty.
The restorers painted the painting to protect it from the sun's rays and dust.
In the end they cleaned the frame and rebuilt some missing parts with chalk.
Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The intervention began with a maintenance of the textile support and the support structure that involved the dusting of the back cloth and the frame (also cleaned with aqueous solution) and a preventive disinfestation treatment. We then proceeded with the disassembly of the painting from the frame and with a dusting of the front and back. Subsequently, the chemical cleaning of the pictorial film was done to remove the surface paint, the recent altered touch-ups and the more ancient ones performed in oil at the small gaps below. The new groutings were then carried out, the leveling of the previous ones still suitable and a first painting. The grouting and abrasions were then supplemented with watercolor and paint colors and a protective coating was applied. Finally, a maintenance intervention was carried out on the frame to remove the deposits of atmospheric particles and integrate with plaster, glue and mica the small gaps present.
