Facilitated description:
The box is a container with a decorated wooden lid.
The box is decorated with figures of men, women, flowers, shells.
Pietro Piffetti made the box in 1740-1750 with different woods, ivory (material obtained from the tusks of elephants) and gilded copper.
The box is kept at the Royal Palace of Turin.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the tapestry in 2007. I
The restorers cleaned the box from dust with chemicals.
They then cleaned the copper parts with a special instrument that emits laser beams.
Abstract of the intervention:
The restoration of the Box, 7099 by Pietro Piffetti was made on the occasion of the inaugural exhibition of the Reggia di Venaria The Palace of Venaria and the Savoy. Art and magnificence and history of a European court (Reggia di Venaria, 12 October 2007 - 30 March 2008).
Restoration
The intervention provided for a chemical cleaning of the surface from atmospheric deposits. The golden copper parts, on the other hand, were cleaned with laser equipment.
