Facilitated description:

The wooden table has a stucco decoration (mixed with marble powder) with the scene of the Battle of Turin in 1706.
Lorenzo Bononcelli made the table in 1706-1724.
The table is kept at the Castello di Racconigi.
The Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the table in 2007.
The restorers did checks to see if iron reinforcements were present in the stucco part.
They put reinforcements under the table to make it flat.
They glued a reinforcement panel under the table.
They cleaned the table.
After the restorers filled the missing wooden parts with stucco.
They painted the stucco with watercolors.
After restoration, the table was exhibited at the opening exhibition of the Reggia di Venaria (2007).

Abstract of the intervention:

Restoration

The intervention started with support operations. A metal detector detected the presence of metal reinforcements inside the constitutive mortar, also demonstrated by the presence of rust stains on the surface. To restore the planarity of the artifact, small thicknesses have been inserted on the back. Subsequently, the fragments were glued with resin and the top was overturned to verify its fixing. On the back was created a sacrifice layer on which a support panel was glued.
The pictorial surface has been subjected to cleaning, grouting of cracks and gaps and pictorial reintegration with watercolor.
The restored table was exhibited on the occasion of the exhibition The Palace of Venaria and the Savoy. Art, magnificence and history of a European court (Reggia di Venaria, 13 October 2007 - 30 March 2008).
