40mc10-AL-2015_Venaria, Reggia, Mirror, inv. 1457-L (owned by Museo Civico d'Arte Antica di Torino - Palazzo Madama)
Facilitated description:
The mirror was made in 1730-1740.
The mirror is decorated with a frame of gilded wood.
The mirror is kept at the Reggia di Venaria.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the mirror in 2015.
The restorers cleaned the mirror of dust.
They reconstructed some parts of the frame.
They filled the missing wooden parts with stucco (plaster and glue layer).
They colored the stucco with watercolors and gold leaf.
Abstract of the intervention:
The mirror, coming from the warehouse of Palazzo Madama, has been the subject of an extraordinary maintenance intervention on the occasion of the insertion in the visit path of the Reggia di Venaria (grant on loan).
Intervention
The intervention provided for the safety of the building with consolidations of the wooden elements and the pictorial film and the cleaning of the surface from atmospheric particulate matter. The missing portions of carving were compensated with resin and the gaps grouted and integrated chromatically with watercolor and gold leaf. Finally, a spray protector was applied.
