Facilitated description:
The Aubusson carpet is a type of carpet made in France.
The carpet was made in the early 1800s.
The carpet is kept at Villa Fogazzaro Roi in Valsolda.
Villa Fogazzaro Roi is an asset of the Italian Environment Fund.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the carpet for a second time in 2018.
Restorers had already restored the carpet in 2015.
The restorers placed the carpet in an anoxic chamber to eliminate the insects that were on the carpet.
Then they cleaned the carpet of dust with a small vacuum cleaner.
They mounted a new lining (reinforcement canvas behind the carpet).
They sewed the missing piece of fabric into the middle of the carpet.
Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The Aubusson manufactory carpet, kept at Villa Fogazzaro Roi (Valsolda), was the subject of a stabilization of the conservation conditions following the infiltration of water due to the loss of a radiator in February 2018. The operations took place a few years after the first restoration (2015-2017) conducted by the Conservation and Restoration Center "La Venaria Reale". The damages found on the carpet are: gore caused by loss of dyes, passage of darker colors on lighter ones, deposits, gap caused by an attack of moths, stains on the lining applied in 2015-2017.
The intervention included a disinfestation treatment in anoxic chamber for a period of three weeks. It was followed by macro-suction cleaning of the deposits and dismantling of the lining system, then replaced at the edge bands. Therefore, the parts affected by the lack of original yarns were stabilised and the gap was compensated by additional intervention (new texture with specially dyed textures).
