41mc02-AL-2015_Saluzzo, Castello della Manta (FAI), Cassapanca

Facilitated description:

The chest is a wooden piece of furniture that serves to hold objects.
The chest is kept at the Manta Castle in Saluzzo.
Castello della Manta is an asset of the Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the chest in 2015.
The restorers placed the chest in an anoxic chamber, an oxygen-free chamber that serves to eliminate wood-eating insects.
They cleaned the chest of dust and the layer of wax that covered the chest.
They cleaned the metal parts.
They filled the missing wood parts with similar wood.
Finally painted the chest to protect it from the sun's rays and dust.

Abstract of the intervention:

Restoration

The chest of the Castello della Manta was restored as part of a project that involved interventions on various textile and furniture furnishings. The operations began with the disinfestation in anoxic chamber for a period of three weeks and the application of anti-moth product with a brush. It was followed by the cleaning of the thick waxy layer that covered the chest, carried out chemically and mechanically by scalpel in the molded parts. The missing carving parts have been integrated with the same wood essence and chromatically uniformed. The metal parts (handles, nozzle and diamond plates) have been chemically cleaned. Finally, the entire surface has been painted with microcrystalline wax for protective purposes.
