Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The intervention on the iron bed of Maria Clotilde's apartment in the castle of Moncalieri was part of a restoration project of various furnishings in this environment. As a first operation the bed was dismantled to be taken to the laboratories of the Conservation and Restoration Center "La Venaria Reale". Subsequently the surface was chemically cleaned from deposits of greasy dirt and atmospheric dust. The gaps of the iron parts were integrated with a red tempera, protected with microcrystalline wax and veiled with paint. The unpainted slats and metal elements have been chemically cleaned and treated with metal straw to remove corrosion products. These parts were then protected with heavy oils. The brass elements were chemically cleaned and dried with IR lamp and protected with acrylic resin and corrosion inhibitor.
