23-AL-2013_Venaria, Royal Palace, Toiletries, inv. 0014/L (Owned by Museo Civico d'Arte Antica di Torino - Palazzo Madama)
Facilitated description:
The toilet service consists of 11 wooden objects that were used for personal hygiene and body care.
On two boxes of the service there is the initials of Queen Maria Battista Giovanna.
The service was built in 1700 and is preserved at the Reggia di Venaria.
The Centro Restauro La Venaria Reale restored the console in 2013.
On the service was made only a maintenance and not a complicated restoration.
The restorers cleaned all the pieces of dust and filled the holes caused by the insects that feed on wood with colored wax.
Abstract of the intervention:
The extraordinary maintenance of the toilet service was carried out on the occasion of the preparation of the work at the Reggia di Venaria. In fact, the service was located in the deposits of the Civic Museum of Ancient Art (Palazzo Madama) and was then destined for the permanent visit of the Reggia di Venaria.
Maintenance
The intervention involved the removal of particulate deposits with vacuum cleaners and brushes and chemical cleaning. Subsequently, the flickering holes were filled with pigmented wax.
