Facilitated description:

The sea at the rising of the moon is a painting on paper by Giuseppe Pietro Bagetti made between 1800 and 1850.
The painting represents the shore, the sea and some sailing boats.
The painting is kept at the Royal Palace of Turin.
The Centre for Conservation and Restoration "La Venaria Reale" (CCR) restored the painting in 2021.
The restorers dismantled the painting from the frame.
Scientists at the Center did scientific analysis to study the attack from parts of fungi that was ruining the painting.
The restorers cleaned the painting and the frame (wooden structure that sits behind the painting and serves to support the painting) from dust.
They integrated (added color) the parts of the painting with shortcomings with watercolors and pencils.
In the end they cleaned the glass of the frame and reassembled the work.

Abstract of the intervention:

Restoration

The intervention on the painting The sea at the rising of the moon Biagetti provided for the dismantling of the work from the frame and the frame. In this way it was possible to conduct biological investigations that detected the presence of a biological attack.
The painting was then cleaned with micro-suction and make-up sponges. The chromatic reintegration was performed with watercolors and pencils in order to attenuate the alterations. The frame was cleaned and subjected to biocidal treatment and the frame glass was cleaned with water and alcohol solution. Finally, the work was reassembled within its frame.
