33mc01-CM-2021_Turin, Royal Armory, 2 flag-bearing eagles, cat. O. 202-203
Facilitated description:
The 2 flag-bearing eagles are two gilded metal objects that serve to stop and decorate the flags.
The flag-bearer was made in 1805. The flagposts are kept at the Armeria Relae in Turin.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre carried out a maintenance operation on the flagpoles in 2021.
The restorers cleaned the flagposts of dust and oxidation (metal parts ruined by contact with air).
They eventually laid out a protective substance to protect the flagpost from the sun's rays and dust.
Abstract of the intervention:
Maintenance
The two eagles were the subject of extraordinary maintenance during the temporary exhibition at the Reggia di Venaria. The artifacts were opaque due to the oxidation of the metal, the presence of superficial deposits and altered protective. The intervention proposed by the Center has therefore provided for the cleaning of the artifacts from deposits and oxidations by dusting and chemical-mechanical cleaning. Solvents of different nature have been selected to eliminate the protective. Finally, a protective layer was applied to the entire surface.
