Facilitated description: 

 

The box of Napoleon's sword is an inlaid wooden container, that is, with a decoration made with different types of wood and ivory.
The box was made in 1853.
The box is kept at the Royal Armory of Turin.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre carried out a maintenance work on the box in 2021.
The restorers cleaned the box from dust. 
They glued the raised wooden parts.
In the end they painted the box to protect it from the sun's rays and dust.

Maintenance

The box of Napoleon's sword was the subject of an extraordinary maintenance intervention on the occasion of the temporary exhibition at the Reggia di Venaria. The box had many ivory gaps and lifts. Therefore, the intervention aimed at a cleaning of the artifact and its safety in view of the exhibition. The intervention project therefore provided for the re-adhesion of the tiles with adhesives, the cleaning with micro-suction of the velvet fabric and the application of final protective.
