Facilitated description:
The toilet cabinet is a wooden cabinet with a marble top that serves to contain personal items.
The furniture was made in the early 1800s.
The furniture is kept at Castello Cavour in Santena.
The restorers of the La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the furniture in 2014-2016.
The restorers placed the furniture in an anoxic chamber, an oxygen-free chamber used to eliminate wood-eating insects.
They cleaned the furniture of dust with small vacuum cleaners and chemicals.
They covered holes caused by wood-eating insects.
They put a product against wood-fed insects.
In the end they put a protective substance to protect the furniture from the sun's rays and dust.
Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The intervention on the toilet furniture is part of the restoration of the furnishings of the bedroom and study of Cavour del Castello di Santena on the occasion of the refurbishment of the entire residence.
The restoration of the furniture began with a disinfestation in the anoxic chamber for a period of three weeks. The removal of atmospheric deposits with rubbers and vacuum cleaners was followed. The decorated surfaces and the marble shelf have been chemically cleaned and the oxidation from the metal parts has been removed.
The flicker holes were filled with stucco (pigmented wax).
Finally, they laid out a mothproof solution and two different protective ones.
