They cleaned the metal parts with chemicals.
They covered holes caused by wood-eating insects.
They filled the wood gaps on the sides by inserting the same type of wood.
They put a product against wood-fed insects.
In the end they put a protective substance to protect the furniture from the sun's rays and dust.
Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The work on the desk is part of the restoration of the furnishings of the bedroom and study of Cavour del Castello di Santena on the occasion of the refurbishment of the entire residence.
The restoration of the desk began with a disinfestation in the anoxic chamber for a period of three weeks. The removal of atmospheric deposits with rubbers and vacuum cleaners was followed. The metal parts have been cleaned by immersion to remove oxidation.
The flicker holes were filled with stucco (pigmented wax). The gaps of wooden material were integrated with the same essence, then pigmented and burnished.
Finally, they laid out a mothproof solution and two different protective ones.
