Facilitated description:
The sofa in Cavour's room was made during the 1800s.
The sofa is kept at Castello Cavour in Santena.
The restorers of the La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the sofa in 2014-2016.
The restorers placed the sofa in an anoxic chamber, an oxygen-free chamber that serves to eliminate wood-eating insects.
They cleaned all the wooden parts of the sofa from dust.
They clean the fabric with a small vacuum cleaner.
They covered holes caused by wood-eating insects.
They put a product against wood-fed insects.
In the end they painted the wooden parts of the sofa to protect the sofa from the sun's rays and dust.
Abstract of the intervention:
Restoration
The intervention on the sofa is part of the restoration of the furnishings of the bedroom and study of Cavour del Castello di Santena on the occasion of the refurbishment of the entire residence.
The restoration of the sofa began with a disinfestation in the anoxic room for a period of three weeks. This was followed by the chemical removal of atmospheric deposits on tobacconists and mechanical removal on wooden and fabric parts.
The flicker holes were filled with pigmented resin.
Finally, they spread an anti-moth solution and a protective varnish.
