Facilitated description:

The two chairs have a wooden structure and the upholstery of silk fabric.
The chairs were made during the 1800s.
The chairs are kept at Castello Cavour in Santena.
The restorers of the La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the chairs in 2014-2016.
The restorers placed the chairs in an anoxic chamber, an oxygen-free chamber used to eliminate wood-eating insects.
They cleaned the chairs of dust.
They cleaned the metal wheels with chemicals.
They covered holes caused by wood-eating insects.
They put a product against wood-fed insects.
They cleaned the fabric with a small vacuum cleaner.
In the end they put a protective substance on the wooden parts to protect the chairs from the sun's rays and dust.

Abstract of the intervention:

Restoration

The intervention on the two chairs is part of the restoration of the furnishings of the bedroom and study of Cavour del Castello di Santena on the occasion of the refurbishment of the entire residence.
The restoration of the chairs began with a disinfestation in the anoxic chamber for a period of three weeks. This was followed by the disassembly of the structures to remove the old glue and reassemble all the parts. In this phase, wooden reinforcements (cats) have been inserted where they are missing. The chairs were then cleaned of atmospheric deposits and the metal wheels were cleaned of oxidation.
The flicker holes were filled with pigmented resin.
The gaps of wooden material were integrated with the same essence, then pigmented and burnished.
They laid out a mothproof solution and two different protective ones.
Finally, the textile coverings were cleaned.
