Facilitated description:

The frame of the painting is of gilded wood.
The frame was made in the mid-1800s.
The frame and the painting are kept at Castello Cavour in Santena.
The restorers of the La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Centre restored the frame in 2014-2016.
The restorers placed the frame in an anoxic chamber, an oxygen-free chamber that serves to eliminate wood-eating insects.
They filled the wooden gaps with colored stucco with watercolors.
They did the gilding where it was missing.
They put a product against wood-fed insects.
In the end they painted the frame to protect it from the sun's rays and dust.

Restoration

The intervention on the frame of the painting depicting the Death of Augusto Cavour is part of the restoration of the furnishings of the bedroom and study of Cavour of the Castle of Santena on the occasion of the refurbishment of the entire residence.
The restoration of the frame began with a disinfestation in the anoxic chamber for a period of three weeks. The removal of atmospheric deposits with rubbers and vacuum cleaners was followed.
The upheavals were consolidated and made to re-adhere to support. I was glued the portions of ornate detached.
The gaps of wooden material were integrated with stucco, chromatically intoned with watercolors.
The gilding gaps have been integrated into gouache.
Finally, an anti-moth solution and a protective varnish were applied.
